A list of all the definitions of phrases and terms used in Kojammi-Pool

Definitions Related To The Table
  • “Back Cushion” – The cushion which is opposite the “Player Zone Cushion”. 
  • “Black Spot” – The spot on the “Kojammi Table” where the “Black Ball” is positioned at the start of each “Player’s” “Round” and returned to following a “Black Ball Foul” when the “Black Ball” does not come to rest “Outfield”. Positioned 11” from the “Back Cushion” and equidistant to the “Side Cushions”.
  • “Live Line” –  A straight line positioned 22” from the “Player Zone Cushion”.
  • “Kojammi Pockets” – The two pockets located in the “Player Zone”.
  • “Off The Table” – Refers to any areas which are not part of the “Kojammi Table”.
  • “Pocket/Pockets” – Any of the pockets on a Kojammi-Table.
  • “Kojammi Spot” – The spot on the “Kojammi Table” where the “Kojammi Ball” is positioned at the start of each “Player’s” “Round”. Positioned 22’’ from the “Back Cushion” and equidistant to the “Side Cushions”. 
  • “Table/Kojammi Table” – The table on which “Kojammi-Pool” is played. Regulation standard 8ft pool table (Playing Area = 44″ x 88″).
  • “Outfield” – The area of the “Kojammi Table” between the “Live Line” and the “Back Cushion”.
  • “Outfield Pockets” – The four pockets located “Outfield”.
  • “Player Zone” – The area of the “Kojammi Table” between the “Player Zone Cushion” and the “Live Line”.
  • “Player Zone Cushion” – The cushion which lies wholly within the “Player Zone”.
  • “Side Cushion/Side Cushions” – The two longest cushions on a “Kojammi Table” running the full length of the table.
  • “Middle Pockets” – The two “Pockets” “Outfield” which are positioned halfway down the “Side Cushions” respectively.
  • “Over The Live Line” – The term used to describe a “Ball” which is more than 50% in the “Playing Zone”.
Definitions Related To The Balls
  • “Ball/Balls” – Any of the balls which constitute a “Kojammi-Pool” set as prescribed in the “Rules” by the “WKPA”.
  • “White Ball/White Balls” – The 14 playing balls which “Players” use to “Roll” and attempt to “Pot”. These are white with the red “Kojammi” ‘K’ emblazoned on them.
  • “Black Ball” – The black ball which is emblazoned with the red “Kojammi” ‘K’ emblem.
  • “Kojammi Ball” – The red ball which is emblazoned with the white “Kojammi” ‘K’ emblem.
  • “Active/Activated” – The “Black Ball” becomes “Active/Activated” if the “Player” has the final “White Ball” “In Hand” at the start of their “Turn”.
  • “Deactivated” – The state which the “Black Ball” exists in prior to being “Activated”. 
  • “Object Ball” – The “Ball” which the “Active Player” has to hit in order for it to be a legal “Roll”.
  • “Store” – The cumulative name for all the “White Balls” which the “Player” has placed “Under Control” in the “Playing Zone”.
  • “Contact” – A “Ball” will be deemed to have had “Contact” with another “Ball” if it in any way touches the other “Ball”.
  • “Direct Contact” – The first “Ball” which comes into “Contact” with a “White Ball” which has been “Rolled” by an “Active Player”.
  • “Indirect Contact” – The act of a “White Ball” coming into “Contact” with another “White Ball” or “Activated” “Black Ball” prior to coming into “Contact” with either a “Deactivated” “Black Ball” or the “Kojammi Ball”.
  • “Coming To Rest/Come To Rest/Comes To Rest” – The act of a “Ball” or of all the “Balls” ceasing motion.
  • “Starting White Balls/Starting Balls” – The three “White Balls” selected by the “Active Player” from the “Opponent’s” “Set-Up”.
Definitions Related To The Player
  • “Player/Players” – Either or both of the players involved in a “Kojammi-Pool” “Match”.
  • “Active Player” – The “Player” currently playing their “Round”.
  • “Opposing Player/Opposing Players” – The “Player” who is not currently playing their “Round”. 
  • “Opponent/Opponent’s” – The other “Player” in a “Match”.
  • “In Hand/Balls In Hand” – The number of “White Balls” currently “Under Control” by the “Active Player” in their “Store” in the “Playing Zone”.
  • “Under Control” – The act of “Touching” and causing to “Come To Rest” any “White Ball/White Balls” which cross the “Live Line” in the “Playing Zone”.
  • “Touch/Touches/Touched” – The act of an “Active Player” having physical contact with any “Ball”.
  • “Concede/Concedes/Concession” – The act of a “Player” giving “Victory” to their “Opponent” by resigning from any further involvement in a “Match”.
Definitions Related To The Set-Up
  • “Setting-Up” – The act of arranging the “White Balls”,  “Black Ball” and “Kojammi Ball” in accordance with the “Rules” as laid out by the “WKPA”. Each “Opposing Player” performs this task for each “Active Player” prior to the commencement of a “Player’s” “Round”.
  • “Set-Up” – The chosen arrangement of the “Balls” by the “Opponent” at the start of a “Round” or “Frame” in accordance with the “Rules” as laid out by the “WKPA”.
  • “Player’s Toss” – The means of deciding which “Player” will have the option to have their “Round” first in a “Match”.
Definitions Related To The Clock
  • The Clock/Clocks” – A timer required for each Player (which runs down from the “Starting Time” in “Normal Time” and up thereafter in “Over Time”) to record the total time played throughout the “Match”.
  • “Normal Time” – The time in which “The Clock” runs down from the “Starting Time”. “Players” must complete the “Match” within this time frame to secure a “Victory”. 
  • “Over Time” – Any time that a “Player” takes which is in addition to “Normal Time” to complete a “Match”. One “Player” may be in “Over Time” whilst another “Player” is in “Normal Time”.
  • “Match Time” – The total amount of time each “Player” has taken to complete a “Match”.
  • “Starting Time” – The time on each “Player’s” “Clock” at the start of a “Match”.
  • “Round Time” – The time it takes each “Active Player” to complete their “Round”.
  • “Frame Time” – The time it takes for both “Players” to complete a “Frame”.
  • “Time Break” – A period of time granted by the “Umpire” in which “Players” “Clocks” are stopped in order to discuss a contentious issue, to discuss an “Umpire’s” decision or any other relevant reason deemed by the “Umpire”. 
Definitions Related To Scoring
  • “Frame Point/Frame Points” – The number of points awarded to the winning “Player” at the end of each “Frame”. This can be either one “Frame Point” or two “Frame Points” depending on the manner in which a “Player” has won the “Frame” with reference to the “Rules” set out by the “WKPA”.
  • “Score/Scores/Scoring” – The accumulative number of legally “Potted” “White Balls”  in a “Frame” (or a legally potted “Black Ball” or “Kojammi Ball”) by a “Player”. 
  • “Set The Score/Sets The Score/Setting The Score/Set Their Score” – The act of an “Active Player” registering a “Score” within their “Round” first in a “Frame”. 
  • “Chases The Score/Chase The Score/Chasing The Score/Chased The Score” – The role the “Player” occupies when they are not “Setting The Score”; the “Player” who has their “Round” second in a “Frame”.
  • “Right of Reply” – The right of the “Player” who is “Chasing The Score” to register a “Score” in reply to an “Active Player’s” “Score”. 
  • “Win The Frame” – The act of a “Player” getting a higher “Score” than their “Opponent” during a “Frame”; or the act of a “Player” having a shorter “Round Time” than their “Opponent” in the case that both “Players” register the same “Score” within a “Frame”.
  • “Kojammi Pot” – The act of legally “Potting” the “Kojammi Ball” in either of the “Kojammi Pockets”.
  • “Black Ball Pot” – The act of legally “Potting” the “Black Ball” in any “Pocket” once it has become “Activated”.
  • “Stalemate/Stalemated Frame” – The act of both “Players” “Scoring” the same “Score” and “Round Time” in a “Frame”.
  • “Victory” – The act of reaching the required number of “Frame Points” in a “Match” before your “Opponent” in “Normal Time” which makes it impossible for your “Opponent” to catch up.
  • “Loss” – The act of a “Player” losing a “Match” following their “Opponent” securing a “Victory”.
  • “Draw” – The act of both “Players” failing to secure a “Victory”.
Definitions Related To Fouls
  • “Foul/Fouls” –  Any action taken by the “Player” which results in a breach of the “Rules” as set out by the “WKPA”.
  • “Standard Foul” – The lowest level of “Foul” in “Kojammi-Pool” resulting in the “Active Player” incurring a “Penalty Ball” which is positioned “Outfield” by the “Opponent” at the place of the “Opponent’s” choosing.
  • “Round Ending Foul” – A more serious “Foul” in “Kojammi-Pool” by the “Active Player” resulting in the end of their “Round”.
  • “Catastrophic Foul” – The most serious “Foul” by a “Player/Players” in “Kojammi-Pool” resulting in the offending “Player” being docked one “Frame Point” and the “Frame Point/Frame Points” for the “Frame” in which the “Foul” has occurred being given to the non-offending “Player”. 
  • “Black Ball Foul” – A “Foul” as a result of an infraction of the “Rules” relating to the “Black Ball”.
  • “Penalty Ball” – A “White Ball” from an “Active Player’s” “Store” which is forfeited to the “Opponent” following a “Standard Foul” to be positioned “Outfield” at the “Opponent’s” place of choosing. 
  • “Foul Ball” – The offending ball which has caused the “Foul” to occur. 
  • “Knocked Off The Table” – the act of any one or more “Balls” leaving the “Table” as a result of an “Active Player’s” “Roll”.
  • “Straight In A Pocket/Straight In Any Pocket/Straight In The Pocket” – An illegal act in “Kojammi-Pool” where an “Active Player” “Rolls” a “White Ball” into any “Pocket” prior to said “White Ball” making “Contact” with another “Ball”.
  • “Unsportsmanlike Behaviour” – Any act by a “Player/Players” which is deemed by the “Umpire” or upon review to be cheating, bring the sport into disrepute or be offensive in any way. 
Definitions Related To The Method Of Play
  • “Pot/Potting/Potted” – the act of legally potting one or more “Balls”. Where multiple “White Balls” are “Potted” the term is altered (e.g. “Potting” two “White Balls” in a single roll is a “Double Pot” etc.). 
  • “Throw/Thrown” – An illegal act in “Kojammi-Pool” where a “White Ball” “Rolled” by an “Active Player” does not maintain contact with the “Kojammi Table” as it crosses the “Live Line”.
  • “Re-Spotted/Re-Spotting/Re-Spot” – The act of placing the “Black Ball” onto the “Black Spot” following potting the “Black Ball” as a “Foul”, the “Black Ball” being “Knocked Off The Table” or the “Black Ball” “Coming To Rest” in the “Playing Zone”.
  • “Roll/Rolled/Rolling” – The act of an “Active Player” rolling a “White Ball” within a single “Turn”.
Definitions Related To The Structure Of A Match
  • “Turn/Turns” – A “Turn” constitutes one “Roll” by an “Active Player” and any subsequent movement by any “Balls” up until all the “Balls” have “Come To Rest”.
  • “Round” – Half a “Frame”. Each “Player” has their own “Round” which constitutes the time in which they are the “Active Player”.
  • “Frame” – The combination of each “Player’s” “Round”; typically resulting in both “Players” creating a “Score”, with the winning “Player” awarded appropriate “Frame Points”. Where an “Active Player’s” “Score” is a “Kojammi Pot” the “Frame” ceases following said “Active Player’s” “Round”.
  • “Match” – The total collection of “Frames” within one competitive encounter. Typically a “Match” consists of a best of nine “Frames”.
General Definitions
  • “Disciplinary Procedures” – The set of discretionary punishments laid out by the “WKPA” for, including but not limited to, any infraction of the “Rules” by the “Player”.
  • “Rule/Rules” – The set of laws laid out and governed by the “WKPA” for the playing of “Kojammi-Pool”.
  • “WKPA” – The World Kojammi-Pool Association. The governing body and rule-setting body of the sport of “Kojammi-Pool”.
  • “Kojammi-Pool” – A sport as described herein these rules sanctioned and approved by the “WKPA”.
  • “Kojammi” – A brand solely sanctioned by the “WKPA” to be responsible for the dissemination of content related to Kojammi-Pool.
  • “Umpire” – The person in overall charge of a “Match”.
  • “Favourable Position” – An advantageous position that an “Active Player’s” “White Balls” may occupy on the “Kojammi Table”.
